Impact Of Smoking And Alcohol On FertilityImpact of Smoking and Alcohol on Fertility
Infertility is a life crisis and can hit some people so hard that can
change their life entirely. There are various factors that lead to
infertility. Infertility may occur in men as well as women. It can
happen to anyone, even to the ones who least expect it. Both of them
can be victims of infertility. The main causes of infertility are
smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol, using illicit drugs to
prolong the orgasm, non-use of contraceptives like condoms while
engaging in sexual activities which may cause the person to catch up
with Sexually Transmitted Diseases which eventually affects the
reproductive system and increase infertility. Smoking:
Tobacco smoke contains several harmful and toxic
substances. Smoking or even inhaling the smoke of burning tobacco
is harmful for the fertility not only in women but also in men and also
has a permanent negative impact. In women, smoking causes the defect of
menstruation and may affect the entire reproductive system. Smoking
causes a considerable reduction in a woman’s fertility and has a
negative impact on the woman’s ability to get pregnant. Study
reveals that the smoking women take a longer time, almost 2 months more
than the non-smoking women to conceive along with a lesser chance to
get pregnant. They almost have only 50% chances to become
pregnant. Use of Alcohol:Alcohol consumption also affects the overall infertility in both men and women. Consumption of alcohol may cause sluggish movement of the sperm and sometimes even decrease the sperm count. There are various other effects of alcohol and smoking on fertility and none of them are good. The couple, which is trying to have a baby should limit the alcohol consumption during the conceiving period. The quitting of alcohol and smoking might help in various good effects and chances of getting pregnant. The chances off conceiving is regained up to the level of a normal non-smoking woman.
